How to choose a suitable industrial air cooler?

Industrial air coolers (also known as environmentally friendly air conditioners and evaporative air coolers) are efficient and energy-saving industrial cooling equipment, mainly used to improve air quality and comfort in high temperature and sultry environments. Industrial air coolers are free of cold coal and pollution-free. When the fan is running, negative pressure is generated in the cavity, which causes the air outside the machine to flow through the surface of the porous wet curtain, forcing the dry bulb temperature of the air outside the machine to be close to the wet bulb temperature of the air outside the machine. The drier and hotter the air, the greater the temperature difference., the better the cooling effect. At the same time, it also has the dual functions of cooling and humidifying (the relative temperature can reach about 75%) and can purify the air.

1. The main role of industrial air coolers
cooling
Through the principle of evaporation and heat absorption, the ambient temperature can be quickly reduced (usually 4 - 12 ° C), which is especially suitable for open or semi-open spaces (such as workshops, warehouses, greenhouses, etc.).
Compared with traditional air conditioners, the cooling speed is faster and there is no need for a closed environment.

ventilation
When running, the air cooler will continue to introduce fresh outdoor air, and at the same time exhaust hot and dirty air indoors to solve the problem of hypoxia caused by the traditional air conditioning cycle of internal wind.
humidification
Evaporation will increase air humidity (suitable for dry areas), but note that high-humidity environments (such as textile mills) may not be suitable.

energy conservation and environmental Protection
The power consumption is only 1/8 to 1/10 of that of traditional air conditioners (only driving fans and water pumps). There is no Freon and it meets environmental protection requirements.

dust removal
Some models are equipped with filters that can absorb dust and particulate matter in the air and improve air quality (suitable for welding workshops, polishing workshops, etc.).

2. Working principle of industrial air coolers
Industrial air coolers are mainly based on evaporative cooling, and their core processes are as follows:
(1). Principle of evaporation and heat absorption
Physical basis: Water needs to absorb heat (about 2260kJ/kg) when evaporating, thereby reducing the temperature of the surrounding air.
Example: The ground cools after spraying water in summer, and the principle is the same.

(2). Equipment workflow
wet curtain cooling
The air cooler has a built-in honeycomb wet curtain (water-absorbing material), and the water pump evenly moistens the surface of the wet curtain with water in the water tank.
Hot external air is sucked in by the fan. When it passes through the wet curtain, the moisture quickly evaporates, absorbing heat in the air, and lowering the air temperature.
air circulation
The cooled air is pressurized by a fan and sent into the room through an air duct or an air outlet. At the same time, hot air is discharged to form a circulation.
humidity adjustment
The evaporated moist air will slightly increase indoor humidity, but has less impact in open spaces.

(3). Key component functions
Wet curtain: The core cooling component requires strong water absorption and corrosion resistance (commonly used materials: honeycomb paper, polymer materials).
Fan: Forced air flow (axial flow fan or centrifugal fan, the latter has a higher wind pressure).
Water pump: Circulate water supply to keep the wet curtain moist.
Control system: Adjust wind speed, water volume, timing switches, etc.

3. How to choose the right industrial air cooler?
(1). clear needs
Space size: Measure the area, floor height, and volume (cubic meters) of the factory building/workshop. The cooling capacity of the air cooler needs to match the space. Formula reference: Cooling capacity (kW) ≈ space volume (m³) × temperature difference demand (℃) × 0.05 (empirical coefficient).
Ambient temperature and target temperature: Understand the local maximum summer temperature and the required cooling range (usually evaporative air coolers can cool the temperature by 4 to 12℃).
Influence of humidity: Evaporative air coolers will increase the humidity of the air. If the environment itself is humid or the process is not wet (such as electronics workshops), you need to choose carefully.

(2). Air cooler type selection
Evaporative air cooler (environmentally friendly air conditioner)
Applicable scenarios: open or semi-open spaces (such as workshops, warehouses, greenhouses), dry areas.
Advantages: Low power consumption (only fans and water pumps use electricity), ventilation, and low cost.
Disadvantages: Humidity increases and cooling is limited.
Industrial air conditioning (refrigerated air cooler)
Applicable scenarios: enclosed environments and places with strict temperature and humidity requirements (such as precision instrument workshops).
Advantages: Stable cooling and controllable humidity.
Disadvantages: High energy consumption and need to install outdoor units.

(3). key performance parameters
Air volume (m³/h): Ensure that the number of air changes per hour is ≥25 to 30 (higher in high temperature environments). Calculation example: 1000㎡ factory building, height of 5m → volume of 5000m³; required air volume ≥5000×30= 150,000 m³/h.
Cooling capacity (kW): Select based on the space heat load (equipment heating, personnel density, etc. need to be calculated additionally).
Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER): The higher the value, the more electricity is saved. Priority is given to level 1 energy efficiency.
Noise (dB): If it is a densely populated area, select a model with noise ≤65dB.

(4). Equipment structure and material
Shell material:
Galvanized steel plate (rust-proof, suitable for general environment).
Stainless steel (corrosion resistant, suitable for chemical and food factories).
Wet curtain (evaporative type): High-quality honeycomb paper wet curtain has strong water absorption and durability, and low-quality wet curtain is easy to deform.
Motors and fans:
Choose a copper wire motor (long life) with a protection rating of IP55 or above (dust and water resistance).
Centrifugal fans have higher wind pressure than ordinary fans and are suitable for long pipeline air supply.

(5). Installation and maintenance convenience
Installation method:
Exterior wall installation: Air vents need to be reserved to avoid direct sunlight on the water tank.
Roof installation: Pay attention to load-bearing and waterproofing.
Maintenance requirements:
Check whether the water tank is easy to clean (anti-algae design).
Whether the wet curtain is easy to remove and clean (it is recommended to clean it every 1 to 2 weeks).
